What is something people THINK they know about your job?
Some people think that nursing professors seek to weed out students and create policies that cause students' success to be more challenging than it should be. In actuality, nursing programs are held to very high standards by clinical sites, states' board of nursing, and the community. As a result, faculty expectations are more rigid than what may seem reasonable.
Name one thing you WISH people knew about your job?
Being a nurse educator is emotional work. When students have an "ah ha" moment, I am absolutely thrilled. When they are not successful, my heart breaks. Nursing professors care about our students like bedside nurses care about their patients. We are still nurses.
Tell us a secret about your job.
Contrary to popular belief, most nursing professors do not enjoy grading papers.
