WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Kids ages 3-14, Adults working in the corporate setting, and senior citizens in retirement communities
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I've always wanted to own my business and I was a business major in college. I ended up going to law school after that, but still had the dream of owning my own business (not a law practice). I found Challenge Island and loved the idea of teaching fun, hands-on, educational enrichment programs to people in the community. I opened up my franchise in early 2018 and absolutely love it!
WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
Most people assume that we are just a program for kids. It's true that a large part of our programming is for kids, but our lessons are actually designed to be able to work with people of all ages. We can take our lessons into the corporate setting for team building workshops. We can also take our lessons into retirement communities to help senior citizens with their fine motor and socialization skills. It's a program for all ages!
NAME ONE THING THAT YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
When most people hear that we are a STEM program, they picture robotics and computers. We actually don't use any robotics or digital technology in our programs. Our participants have to work together in teams to build and create things out of normal, everyday materials. Challenge Island is where engineering meets imagination.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love seeing the different ways our teams solve problems. I'm always amazed at the creativity!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
It takes a lot of work to get started and established in your community - but it's totally worth it and communities need programs like ours!
