WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Anyone with a collection of printed photos, albums, vhs tapes, slides, etc.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I have always loved photos, photo albums and the stories they tell. Creating scrapbooks has been a part of my life since I was a child doing 4-H projects. After selling archival scrapbooks as a side job for many years, I co-founded a Photo Estate Management company in 2013 and sold my half of the company in Dec of 2020. I launched my company, Photo Solutions Guru, as a concierge photo management, Forever® storage, and genealogy research business in January of 2021 and have been going strong ever since.
WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
For me, printed photos are easier to organize and manage than digital images. I gain so much information about the age of the photo simply by the paper, size and texture that I sometimes start by sorting old (pre 1970s) prints upside down!
NAME ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Making digital copies of anything needs to be done right. Dubbing VHS to DVD in your basement is not going to give you the best quality moving forward. Neither is scanning your photos on your printer or taking pictures with an app on your phone. Do it right, pay for it once and have it to celebrate and share for generations to come.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love to reconnect people with their memories and heritage. Crying is common!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Partner with someone who is working professionally. Choose to do what you love.
