WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
My ideal clients are authors who want to polish their works before submitting to various venues or who have made the decision to self-publish their works.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I came into freelance editing naturally. I am a lifelong reader, and that led to earning a master’s degree in English. That in turn led me to teach college English, and the next logical step for me was to enter the world of freelance editing.
WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
Many people believe editing consists of nitpicking grammar and punctuation. That is part of editing, but a good editing job consists of so much more. Editors look at sentence structure, paragraph organization, and the logical follow through of ideas that helps a manuscript flow smoothly and communicate ideas clearly.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
It gives me a feeling of satisfaction to see a work blossom into its full potential.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Read, read, read. The more you read the more that good spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and a solid sense of narrative will sink into you and become second-nature.
WHAT IS THE ONE BOOK THAT YOU THINK I SHOULD READ RIGHT NOW?
I have just finished reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It's an exciting and gripping narrative and I was deeply emotionally moved by the story.
