NAME
Kristin Sellke

COMPANY
Healing Arts Pathway, INC

POSITION
Owner. Wellness Coach. Therapist.

WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Middle-aged adults that are wanting an amazing second half of their life. Exploring areas of life that are unsatisfactory and wanting to change it. Most often these areas are physical health, relationships, transitions, and stress recovery.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
A very long story.  It started in high school, I fell in love with the area of psychology.  I became captivated when I watched Silence of the Lambs.  Started college, thinking that was the direction I would go, becoming a profiler for the FBI.  After some heartfelt conversations with those that love me, they had convinced me that profiling criminals would be too heavy on my sensitive soul.  I then went into the area that has always given me joy, art!  It was during this direction into art education that I was told about art therapy.  Then and there, I knew I had found my career of combining art and psychology. Ha! A little naive of me to think this career choice would be any less heavy on the soul.

After receiving my BFA, I went on to get my MA in art therapy.  I have been in this field now for over 20+ years and I continue to evolve and learn.  In the recent years, my interest on how stress impacts our physical body has grown into a passion.  I have just completed a year program with Functional Medicine Coaching Academy to broaden my skillset into Wellness Coaching.  It is my new passion project and really where I want to help others.  I love seeing the action and healing that is done with coaching.  I love putting the puzzle pieces together of how emotional health impacts our physical health and vice versa.  Both entities are super important for longevity and aging well.  Who doesn't want to be fulfilled with community and family into their golden years?  Who doesn't want the capability of walking the streets of Rome at 75, 80 years old?  We have to start taking care of ourselves NOW to get to the vision of life we want to live.  I get super excited witnessing the transitions people create in their life!

WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The coach in me is that Wellness Coaching is ALL about telling a client what to eat and what exercises they have to do.  This is not what it is about at all!

Hollywood in recent years has done a great job making it look like we are rolling in the dough, we don't. (Calling all fans of Shrinking on HBO). Reality is that being a therapist is not a lucrative career.

NAME ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR JOB.
Wellness coaching is beyond nutrition and movement.  In no way am I telling someone what they have to do. Rather it is about the client deciding what is important to them, forging the way forward, and me co-creating that with them by evoking what they want.  It really is a magical process when the client is ready to make the change.

As a therapist, it is really hard work and often is thankless.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Seeing others create success, healing, and being the best person they are capable of being.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Mental health Any new therapists, practice self care right now! With coaching, this is the way of the future. Get out there, get involved, and be kind to everyone. It is a small world we live in.

What is the ONE book that you think I should read RIGHT NOW?
So many! This is a hard one. I think the Disease Delusion by Jeffery Bland. An eye opener on our health and what we can do to not be on the Big Pharma train.
