HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
Truly by accident! I used to work in print at a traditional ad agency. I started helping out with resizing digital ads because there was a gap to fill and I knew photoshop. That turned into managing website projects and I distinctly recall having an aha moment and thinking, "You mean this is a whole career? Sign me up!"
WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
That a website is done when it launches. The day we launch a site is really just the beginning. The beauty of digital is that it's meant to be ever-changing. The best websites (or ad campaigns or whatever) are created with the intention of learning from users and constantly iterating.
NAME ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Sometimes the things that look the simplest in the end take a lot of work to pull off. I never call anything "easy" anymore because I've been burned too many times! We're doing complex stuff behind the scenes and making it look easy to the end user.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I love learning about our clients' industries and being able to translate their business needs into something that connects with their customers.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Be nosy! Find out how something ticks, have the mindset of a kid taking apart a toaster to figure out how it works. Across all of the different roles in our company, genuine curiosity is probably the most valuable skill.
