HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I'll omit the geeky details. Instead, enjoy the story.
In 1984, Nick and I took apart his family's PC while his Mom went out for groceries. We knew we had about a half hour and that the kitchen junk drawer had the tools we needed. We were putting the data cable into the back end of the 5 1/4" floppy drive when we heard the garage door opening. We hastily put screws into the case. He said he would go distract her by helping carry groceries. I put the heavy beast onto the desk with a thud and then hefted the monitor onto the case. It was a brand new PC so I didn't have to align the monitor base with any dust lines. I could hear his Mom talking about how he never helped with getting the groceries... she was growing suspicious. Everything was plugged in. I hit the power button and the PC posted. WHEW! Loading the game took time though. Precious time that we did not have. His Mom was coming towards the door to the study.
KaTHUD... tumble, tumble, tumble. "Mom." The sounds of groceries spilling onto the floor in the kitchen made her turn and head back.
That was brilliant Nick! I thought to myself.
"Honestly Nicholas! Just go play with your friend." Mumblings of how she wouldn't let him help again were followed by Nick bursting in the door to the study and asking me if that gave the PC enough time to load. It did and better, it gave me time to load the game to the exact same spot we were at so that it looked like we hadn't even touched the PC.
Whether it be hardware or software, I haven't stopped taking things apart.

Your piece of paper doesn't make you an admin, experience does. Now go make friends with Spiceworks, Google, YouTube, TechNet, and find your niche.
