HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I've always loved homes my whole life, even as a young child. I initially started going to college for construction project management, but then in 07-08 the economy tanked, so I switched my major and finished with a Finance degree. As the years went on, Real Estate had still always been on my mind. So one year I talked to my high school friend, Sean Lentz, about starting to work at his Real Estate Brokerage, just on the side to see if it would be a good fit for me. So I got my license and pretty much became obsessed and never looked back. It honestly came very natural to me, along with Sean and his business partner, Dan Burgeson, mentoring me along the way.
WHAT IS ONE THING PEOPLE think THEY KNOW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I've noticed a lot of people think Real Estate super easy, and you just go around selling houses and making tons of money (and that you get to keep all of it, lol). In reality, it's TONS of work!! And most people don't realize or understand that once the sale closes and we get handed the commission check, that money gets divided up pretty quickly. Most companies have a "split" with the broker, then have to pay taxes on what you earned. We also pay for listing photos/marketing materials/yard signs/advertising/etc out of pocket, and then all of our daily business & life bills on top of it. It dwindles down pretty quickly, so that's where the hard work comes into play. We have to continually market ourselves and network as much as possible to cultivate more business to keep things running. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to be a successful agent that most people don't realize at all.
NAME ONE THING YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR JOB?
How much we really do behind the scenes of a transaction to make things go smoothly and stress free (for them, lol). We take on a lot of the anxiety and stress in some situations, but handle it all ourselves as much has possible, unless we have to get the client involved. We work our tails off to provide the best service and solutions to everything as best as we can, so that at the end of the day everyone is excited and happy!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
It's extremely rewarding delivering the news that my clients got the home they were hoping for! Knowing all the hard work paid off for everyone and seeing them excited at the closing table.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
Network, network, network! The more people that know who you are and what you do, the more successful you will be! Your sphere of influence will be the key to your long-term success.
