People sometimes ask me WHY they should hire a professional photographer.
Really, there are SO many reasons why it’s worth the investment, why it’s important to capture your kids through the lens of a “real” camera, why the infinite value begins the minute you put the album in your hand and remains for years. Allow me to explain - and show! - why a professional photographer is so valuable.
5 GREAT REASONS TO HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. I’m asked all the time, "where should we go?”. Part of my job is to curate a list of places that I can depend on for good light, scenery, color and detail. This list may include a barn, a city street, a patch of wild flowers or a sidewalk cafe. The key is, you tell me what you want, I find the location. Consider it handled!
STRIKE A POSE. You may not know exactly what to do in front of the camera - or even WANT to be in front of the camera - but rest assured, I will guide you every step of the way. With the ongoing training provided by Professional Photographers of America, workshops and classes, I know how to direct my subjects, what poses flatter different body types and how to make you look your absolute best - from head to toe!
RACCOON EYES BE GONE. Have you ever noticed that when you take someone’s photo on a sunny day, they look vaguely like a raccoon? Bright face, dark spots where the eyes should be? With a professional photographer who is trained to use off-camera lighting, this will not be an issue. If you’ve ever seen me using lighting on a perfectly sunny day and wondered why, that’s the answer! I want your best features to show beautifully in each and every shot. I want YOU to be the highlight of every image. I won’t leave it up to luck, I have the physics of light on my side. (Yes, dad, I use science in my job. I feel the irony.)
RELATIONSHIPS MATTER. When you hire a professional - take me, for example! - you are hiring a friend. You are hiring someone who will listen to you. You are hiring someone you can trust. I have YOUR interests in mind. I start by making sure the look and feel of your portraits meets your needs and desires. Then, when you are holding that framed portrait in your hands, I know it’s what you wanted. You matter to me, your wishes come first.
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD. You go through the process of picking the perfect spot and choosing the ideal outfits. You spend time and effort in front of the camera. You are excited and anxious to see the resulting images. And then… you get a little plastic USB drive with some files on it. (Insert sad trombone playing.) Isn’t it a let down to receive your photos that way? And what happens to that USB drive? If you’re lucky, you’ll load the photos onto your computer, share a few on Facebook, and then it will sit in the back of a drawer underneath the notepads, pens and paperclips. When you hire a professional photographer who specializes in creating finished products, that is NOT the end of your story. Once your photos are ready to view, you will come to the studio to see your images on a big screen. I will help you choose your favorites, focusing on how and where you want to display them. Fast forward to the day you pick up your heirloom products: there is no feeling quite like holding that album in your hand, turning page after page of stunning art featuring you, your graduate or your family. That album? It’s YOURS. You can hold it any time you need a reminder of how much you love and cherish your family. No USB drive can do THAT for you.
