Self Esteem and Family Photos | The Spring Kids Have Both

These three. Sigh.

Not only are they gorgeous kids (those eyes!), they are funny and emotional and they each have their very own unique personality.

Hannah is the most serious. I mean, she IS the big sister so she has to be, right?

Henry is the goofy one. As the baby of the family he fits his role just fine.

And then there’s Hailey. She’s the dramatic one. If any one of these children ever end up becoming famous, it’s gonna be Hailey.

Sometimes kids get shy at the photoshoot. Sometimes they aren’t sure if they are “supposed” to have fun. I always want them to have fun. Always.

When they have a good time at their session, they will remember that day as a happy moment in their childhood. Even better, when they walk by their photos on the wall in their home, they will get positive feelings of self-esteem, happiness and love.

It’s a proven fact (by someone smarter than me, somewhere, probably in the 80’s) that children who see photos of themselves hanging in their home have higher self-esteem. I would argue that those feelings are reinforced ten-fold when they also had a positive experience with the photographer who took those photos.

For example, if these goofballs were told to stand up straight and be serious (aka “not themselves”) they would see their photos and think, “Well, sure, I look nice, but it doesn’t look like ME.”

Instead, I let them laugh, tell jokes, play hide and seek, do yoga, read a book… BE KIDS. And they LOVE their photos! I promise you that these three walk by the photo below - which was printed as a large framed canvas for their living room - and giggle every time they see it.

Equally as good - their mom recognized that this is a real life representation of her children and chose it as the main wall display. That is true, unconditional love and acceptance.

The next time you have family photos taken, remember to play a little. Remember to relax and let your kids goof around. I mean, yes, of COURSE we want the beautifully posed family portraits. But the fun ones can be winners, too. And you never know what a difference it will make in their self esteem.

Just think: when they see themselves BEING THEMSELVES on the wall in your home, that is physical evidence showing how much you love them… just as they are.

Are you ready to schedule your next family photos? Are you ready to have a little fun in front of the camera? Let’s talk! I am now booking sessions for the spring and (pretty please) summer.

Check out this adorable Time Capsule Video of the Spring Kids. This video is included with your session when you purchase any Print Collection. (Well, not THIS one… you will get the video I would lovingly prepare for you of YOUR family.)
