Wauwatosa Families | Birken (Stock?) Photos
There is absolutely NO air of stock photography when it comes to this family. Emily and Jayme came to me for some family photos. But they didn’t want the standard, smile and pose type photos. That is SO not them.
I worked with them to get them JUST what they wanted. According to Emily, she wanted to capture her quickly growing family the way they were at that moment in time. While it was a challenge, I even got their two boys, who Emily swears are allergic to being photographed, to warm up to me and my “giant camera”.
Emily is an talented and accomplished writer. She filled out the pre-session questionnaire so beautifully that I’m going to leave you in her capable hands for the rest of this blog post.
I'm a writer and Jayme is an engineer. I'm in charge of words and things and he's in charge of numbers and stuff. We both have an odd sense of humor. (When we got married, we had a moon bounce at the reception. Jayme also wanted to get married in pajamas and have a pile of donuts for the cake. I nixed the pajama idea and had the baker create a groom's cake that was a tower of donuts. I got a pretty pink chocolate cake.)
Jayme rarely smiles in pictures, though he has a great smile and laugh. I love books, cats, sewing, reading by large bodies of water, movies, and unicorns. Jayme likes geeking out over esoteric engineering stuff, fixing old things, getting engine grease on my books after taking apart our cars, watching depressing movies about war or heroin addiction, beer, cooking like a scientist, and finding hole-in-the-wall restaurants where you have an equal chance of getting ptomaine poisoning or eating the greatest meal of your life.
Ari, our eldest, has been stubborn cuss since birth. He didn't sleep for the first 18 months of his life and waited to speak until he had something to say. Meaning, his timing is set for maximum hilarity and surprise. He loves fantasy novels, reading, writing, our dog and cat, the Marvel movies, bossing his brother around, teasing Jayme about being an old man, and Reese's peanut butter cups. He will become a Bar Mitzvah at the end of August this year, and he's worried about doing well. Ari's favorite color is red and his favorite animal is the lion.
James, our youngest, was named for my dad, who passed away when I was 4 months pregnant with James. He is generous, sweet, silly, and very funny. James loves animals and babies and anything exhilarating (roller coasters, water slides, VR video games). He has two modes: on and asleep. He loves Batman, math, art, and wrestling with his big brother. His favorite color is blue and his favorite animal is the zebra. He will also talk your ear off if you let him.
I am so happy to know these people now, I have a feeling it won’t be the last time we see each other. (Judging from every time we get together, our lively conversations surrounding family, friends, books and trivia could easily span several hours!)
Is it time to update your own family photos? Let’s talk! Who knows what we can come up with that suits your unique personality and style.
