Brookfield Central class of 2022 Sneak Peek | Phoebe

Last week I spent an evening with a lovely high school senior, Phoebe, and her dad. Phoebe is heading into her senior year at Brookfield Central.

We picked out some “bright” spots in Milwaukee to stop for her senior photos. You see, the original dream - going to her favorite place on the planet - TOKYO!!! - didn’t quite work out. So we made the best of MKE instead.

Now, before I show you her (gorgeous!) Sneak Peek, I need to share a little story.

I’ve been getting lots of calls and questions lately for senior portraits. One of the things parents always ask is WHY should they hire a professional photographer. You know, instead of doing it themselves, asking their cousin with a camera, or any number of people who have a better cell phone than them.

I have SO MANY answers to this question but for today, I’m going to 1. stay focused and 2. share a visual answer.

Today’s answer is simply… LIGHT. Photography is literally defined as “drawing with light” and scientifically, it is the physics of light. So it would only make sense that a professional photographer be proficient in balancing light and shadow and manipulating artificial light to make great images into… outstanding images. I consider that my #1 job when my camera is in my hand.

Once in a while, my equipment takes a snooze and I may get a less-than-stellar shot without my off-camera flash. Not to worry, I always catch it - between seeing the back of the camera, the subject telling me it didn’t flash or my lovely assistant being on the ball if she’s with me. Then I take THE shot. As you can guess, you can REALLY tell the difference.

Here’s one of those before-and-after shots. The first photo is with NO flash. It’s a pretty photo of Phoebe, but it just doesn’t SING. Her eyes are dark and her skin even looks a little blotchy. The second photo though, oh boy. It’s the definition of POP and WOW.

For the record - these both are what photographers call “SOOC” - Straight Out of the Camera. No retouching at all, I only did some basic edits to the RAW files so they don’t look flat.

Have you put off making the leap to hiring a professional photographer for your senior’s graduation photos? Wait no longer. Really, I mean it. Don’t wait any longer because yearbook deadlines are approaching! Contact me today to discuss your senior’s portrait experience.
